Hey Everyone,
Just a reminder that the Spring Art Show is Wednesday May 23rd. You are expected to have a piece of your choice exhibited in this final show. There will be live music, an ice cream sunday station, button maker, and student art auction. As a reminder, attendance at the show is an expected component of your cumulative work for this course. If you have not done so already, please upload your artist statement for your chosen piece to the google doc linked below no later than Wednesday May 10th, so that the Student art committee has time to format your work.

1) At this point in the term, we are three weeks away from finishing the Innovation project. How is your project progressing so far? Have there been any obstacles or struggles? What is going well? What are you still figuring out? Post at least one photo of your work at this stage.
2) Introduce me an artist that inspired your initial idea. Tell me the artist's name, and post at least one photo of their work 3) What was it that you liked about this artist's work? How did you stumble upon them? 4) Did their work influence your idea, if so, how? 5)Is there anything else you would you like to know about their artistic process? How will you find this out? What can their work teach you? Today you will be completing a couple of self portraits....with a twist. The purpose of this assignment is similar to the stick drawing exercise, and is another challenge that will help you get over your fear of not making the perfect drawing.
The Instructions for the first drawing are below. You will find mirrors in the drawer in the back corner of the large studio. Use a 2B pencil and try to fill the page in your sketchbook. Remember to include your neck and shoulders, and pay careful attention to highlights and shadows, as this will give your portrait greater depth. If you finish the wrong-handed portrait, try another portrait on a new page using two coloured prismacolour pencil crayons taped together. Have fun with these drawings!! Your work may surprise you! This week, your homework assignment is to write an artist statement to accompany your Personal Narrative project in the December 13th Art Show. What is an artist statement? An artist statement is a general introduction of your work as an artist. It is the what, how, and why of your work, from your own perspective. It helps you convey the deeper meaning or purpose of your work to the audience (clients, gallery owners, scholarship boards, entrance panels, etc.). What kind of artists need personal statements? If you are a designer, photographer, fashion designer, illustrator, sculpture artist, abstract artist, painter or any other kind of artist, you need an artist statement. Why you need an artist statement An artist statement lets you convey the reasoning behind your work-- why you chose a particular subject matter, why you work in a certain medium, etc. And further, a well-written statement shows the relationship of you to your artwork, and helps creates a connection with the viewer that will make your work (and your name) more memorable. An artist statement can:
How to write an artist statement Writing an artist statement is a chore for most artists. But following theses steps will make it a little easier for you to decide what to write and how to write it. Once you have completed your written statement, you must post it in TWO places. Firstly, post it to your blog, and secondly I will send you a link to a shared google doc, so that you can post it there for the Student Art Committee (SAC) to print for the art show.
For this blog reflection, we would like you to take ten minutes at the start of class to do the following:
