Today we talked about the different facial features and how they can be broken down into basic shapes. We practiced replicated facial features from a magazine. If you were absent from class, search through a magazine and find three or four large faces (they should take up the majority of the page). Cut out different features and glue into your sketchbook. Beside each magazine piece, use a drawing pencil to try and replicate the feature. Make sure you use a range of value to create depth. In this lesson I demonstrated basic facial proportions step by step. If you missed this lesson, click HERE for a video that demonstrates how to draw a human head from your imagination, following the basic rules of proportion. There is a second 'step by step' guide found HERE. Your task: 1) You are responsible for drawing one practice head (full page) in your sketchbook, following the rules of proportion. 2) Cut out two full page heads from a magazine, glue them into your sketchbook and use a ruler and a contrasting marker to test the rules of proportion on these faces. |
