Choose 1 of these challenge projects to complete for your first breadth piece. If there is a challenge piece for a University/Artschool not listed here that you would like to complete please speak to me:
Note: You may use any drawing/painting surface you like, as well as any media/materials of your choice. The size of your piece should be at least 9 x 12 and no larger than 18 x 24 RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) The Assignment: Choose one of the following three prompt options and create two responses using any medium you prefer (no restrictions). We consider this assignment to be as much about process as presentation and encourage you to consider your submissions as exercises in experimental thinking and risk-taking more than as final presentations or examples of technical proficiency. No particular outcome is valued more than another, so feel free to explore the full range of possible expression in these works. • deconstruct | ˌdēkənˈstrəkt | verb [with obj.] | reduce (something) to its constituent parts in order to reinterpret it

Parsons School of Design Parsons Challenge: Create a new visual work inspired by the theme within a portfolio piece you created in grade 10, 11, or during the summer. Support your process by writing one 500 word essay describing how your ideas developed(not required for AP Studio class). You may also submit up to two additional visual pieces that document your process. All forms of media are acceptable—drawing, video, photography, sculpture, 3D work, collage, and digital images. The Parsons Challenge helps the Admission Committee understand how a prospective student develops ideas, visually communicates those ideas, and defends the work in writing. The Parsons Challenge is completed in SlideRoom along with the portfolio. Emily Carr University Project of your Choice: Please choose one of the following and complete the project in any media. The project may take any form of media. However, the finished work must be visually documented. Your project should reflect the specific explorations you undertook in response to this artistic challenge. It will be important that we see how imaginatively you develop and give form to your ideas. You must also tell us about the project and what you intended to communicate in your work (written description). Pick only one from the following three options:

Part 1
Find a contemporary artist (still alive) whose work inspires you. Create a Pinterest board of at least 15 works by that artist. Blog Post: Post 3 works by this artist and answer the following questions in a blog post: What is the artist’s name? Where do they work? What medium do they mainly use? What are some similarities in the works you have chosen in regards to style? Does the work follow a theme/idea? If so, what theme/idea is the artist exploring? Place a link to your pinterest board on this blog post. Part 2 For this challenge you will take one object/image/theme/”big idea” and explore this in 8 different ways over 8 consecutive days. You will post your series on your blog once it is complete. Examples: Object: A chair Image: Found Imagery ex: A butterfly found in national geographic Theme/Big Idea: Displacement These works should take you no more than 30 minutes (time may vary from piece to piece) and should be done on the 8 small cards you have been given. You may use any medium/materials you wish. Link to Pinterest Examples: https://www.pinterest.com/geddes0427/8-card-series/ Using the 10 cards you were given draw your “special” cat on each card using contour line. By drawing the same cat multiple times, you will get subtle variations in facial expression and character.
You will also experiment with line quality, using the chisel end of a large marker. (And why index cards? Sometimes working on “good” paper can inhibit us; a stack of index cards takes the pressure off.) Instructions:
